Backup Strategy
We can help you create a backup strategy that works for your business to minimise the risks of data loss and make sure you can get back to work as quickly as possible should the worst happen, rather than just leaving things to chance.
We can’t guarantee that your laptop will never get dropped and broken, or that your server will never fail, but we can make sure that the impact is minimised.
Why is having a backup strategy so important to my business future?
Consider what would happen if your laptop with all your files on it gets damaged or stolen. Would you be able to continue working? Do you have an up to date copy of the important files elsewhere? Or would you need to try and recreate them?
What happens if your web site gets hacked, or the server fails? When was the last time a complete copy was made of your web site to a different location?
It does not matter what size your business is, these questions are equally important as the business impact of not having backed up your data would be the same: time would be lost to recovering from the situation and missed deadlines could reflect badly on the business.
Do you need to make a backup copy of every file on every computer system?
Many people and companies only back up the data files they have created themselves, and rely on having re-install media for all their computers. This approach requires operating systems (Microsoft Windows or Linux) re-install media, hardware drivers and software installation CDs/DVDs for everything originally installed on the computer.
The process is also quite time consuming as a complete manual reinstall can take a day or more, depending on how much software you need to reinstall. Also quite a lot of software is now purchased as a digital download and does not come supplied with install media, so you need remember to create a backup of these too so you can reinstall any software supplied as a download.
A better solution is to backup all your data files daily and create reinstall images for all your systems with all your software already installed, so you can quickly get back to a working state without needing worry about manually reinstalling before you can restore your data files.
